How to read the Old Testament
21 Mar 2012
Our Real Food group had a great time last week seeing how the Old Testament is first
understood as fulfilled in Jesus Christ (Luke 24:44-45). We saw that we are very quick to read ourselves into the text as Solomon, whereas we should first see Solomon as a failed king pointing to the greater Solomon (Matthew 1:1; 12:42) that we need: King Jesus.
All this reminded me of 1 Samuel 17 and the story of David and Goliath. Very often people have read this story and applied to ourselves as if we were David fighting our 'Goliaths'. But that is to miss that the Bible is first about Jesus. Why not have a read of the attached document to find out why we are not David.
