God's people then and now charge God with not loving them and with not doing His job properly. 
But in Malachi, God turns the tables, and charges His people with not loving Him and doing their job properly.
And God warns them that His full judgement is coming. Yet even as God takes his people to court, he appeals to them to return to Him so they will be blessed.
